Well, we’ve done it! We left Cairns tonight and are sailing (albeit slowly) up the coast north of Cairns. We spent another couple of days doing several provisioning runs, and visiting with our friends here in Cairns. I’m now sporting my new eye patch – which is a big improvement over the gauze and plastic shield I wore for 8 weeks. It is much more comfortable, and the black color blocks the light better. Besides, I think I’m looking a bit like a pirate!
Today we completed our todo list and before sunset departed for our overnight passage to Lizard Island. By leaving late evening, we also are taking advantage of tides which give us a northward current for the next 6+ hours. We may have to motor a bit tonight as the winds typically get light at night around here.
