First the travel update: We moved from Hao to another Tuamotus Island called Fakarava during Monday-Wednesday. We had already planned to go to Fakarava, but moved up the date due to weather and other factors. The big other factor is that Karen may be headed home due to her Mom having health issues. We couldn’t get a flight out of Hao, so we’re trying today to get Karen to Tahiti from Fakarava and then home to Houston from there.
We had a good downwind spinnaker sail from Hao to Fakarava. But, it was so perfectly downwind it actually created some troubles. The autopilot had a hard time keeping up with one jibe or another and the sail would sometimes get wind on the wrong side. One time the sheet actually managed to grab our man overboard pole and break it in half! It’s not something we’ve ever used, so it’s not a big deal, but we hate to lose equipment.
Anyway, I managed to upload the last photos from Moorea to our Picasa albums. This includes photos from the last few days with Patti and Gerard on board. It also shows pictures from the talk I gave at the beach potluck to the boat kids (and the other boaters) about the solar eclipse. All three albums have been updated with new photos so if you read this post and this post you can look at the other two photo albums, or just visit all our photos here. Here is the third and last album:
