We had smooth travels yesterday leaving from Whangarei, riding a bus to Auckland, catching a flight to Christchurch, and arriving at a hotel. There were no delays, and no long layovers between segments. We took a super shuttle instead of a taxi from the airport, and this gave us a great opportunity to get a tour of the area – since we were the last stop. The taxi driver compensated by pointing out the sites and it really turned out to be a nice tour!
The hotel we picked is actually pretty nice. A small room, but it includes a small separate kitchenette (well-equipped) and there’s wireless Internet (for a fee, and bandwidth limited).
The only big caveat to my travel bliss, is that I woke up this morning with the start of Karen’s cold. I guess the four days cooped up in the boat while it rained, and Karen was coughing up a storm, gave me enough exposure. I’m hoping to avoid the length and size of her cold though. Because she had a nasty time with it (and is still recovering).
I had planned to make a post today on a new batch of kite aerial photos I took, but the imagery hasn’t become completely available. So, it will have to wait.
Figured I’d try out your new comment system – works great so far.
If I remember right, there is a radio telescope somewhere south of Christchurch which actually beams radar off the south of the island and catches reflections off of meteors overhead. I think they operated out of Christchurch. It’s been awhile since I last heard anything about that project.
Just hope your cold isn’t contageous over the internet…. 😉 Get well soon!
Jim.
