Almost to Medana

We are just a few hours from arriving at Medana Bay off Lombok (the island just before Bali going west). We plan to check to see if there are any tours available, maybe stay a day or two, and then leave for Bali. We had a very nice sail last night doing 9-10 knots through the water at times. Unfortunately, there was 2+ knots of current against us for much of the way. But, thanks to the fast sailing we are still arriving in daylight today.

Hopefully I’ll have Internet and time to write a decent blog post about the dragons tomorrow – with photos!

One Response to Almost to Medana

Hi frank. So good to read you are sailing and diving again. Try and visit Gili Air on your way to Bali. Also, the currents between Bali and Lombok are fierce, and drove me backwards at 1 knot, even as my engines were maxed out … Roughly an 8 knot current. Timing is tough; no real discernible pattern and lots of counter currents. All to say, don’t assume normal cruising speed when timing the crossing … I did it four times, back and forth to Gili Air, and had to do the second one with an overnight stay …

Again, so great to know you’re on and in the water again.
