We have been on “vacation” from our foreign travels and from blogging on the Tahina Expedition web site while we visit friends and family in the US. I also have taken a much needed break from processing photos every day. But, we would like to finish out 2012 with some new photos. We hope everyone has a Happy New Year celebration and a prosperous 2013!
Here we have a new photo album showing photos from our visit to Singapore. Below is the album with descriptions of the contents written below.
The album starts with photos of our passage across the busy Singapore shipping channel. We went to the west of Singapore to park Tahina at Puteri Harbour Marina – the trip across the channel was described in this post.
We spent several days in Singapore and did some sightseeing. The first highlight was going to Boat Quay to meet up with some cruising friends and have dinner on the Quay. Lots of restaurants and pretty water scenery. We could also see the city skyscrapers and the famous Marina Bay Sands Hotel (the one with a ship across three buildings on the top – see Street View link).
One night we came out of the subway on the main street in Little India and found they had these wonderful lights on the street. It turned out it was Deepavali – the Hindu “Festival of Lights”. We saw lots of the celebrations here and in Kuala Lumpur later.
One day we did Chinatown. This included seeing the Hindu temple – which was having a big firewalking ceremony (not open to the public),
the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, the Chinatown Heritage Museum, and lots of shopping.
Finally, the album includes photos from the Malaysia Sailing Rally kick-off dinner which we attended with some of our cruising friends. You can see photos of some of the dancing we saw.
