Almost to Sunda Straight

At 2 AM we are about 25 miles from the southern tip of Sumatra, essentially the mouth of Sunda Straight.  We had an interesting 2 day trip from Belitung with a much less placid Java Sea than we’ve seen.  There were many thunderstorms to dodge that stirred up the waters, plus a swell coming through the Straight adding to the mix.  Winds were on the nose much of the time.  We tried sailing many times, but it was just too much effort for little return.  So more fuel spent than wanted.

Our objectives now are to see if we can find a place to get fuel, and find some wind – which has been lacking in the forecast along the route to Cocos Keeling.  We also want to visit the volcanic islands of Krakatoa before we leave.
