Karen and I decided to use the car we hired to take our first drive up into the mountains here at Réunion Island. For years now I have dreamed of visiting this volcanic island after seeing some amazing pictures of the views. We went to the closest mountain road up to Dos D’Ane and found the the viewpoint stop of Cap Noir. A short 10 minute hike was shown on our map and so Karen suggested we go. It was amazing!
The views of the ravine kept being revealed through the thick vegetation as we walked on the trail with near vertical drops into the ravine beside us. When we got to Cap Noir it was amazing. The ravine merged into a junction point of several cirques (places where the ravine’s meet up with mountain sides in semi-circular basin). The entire island has many cirques like this and we can’t wait now to see even more! I took dozens of panoramic photos with the Google Camera app on my phone. Karen got so enthused, she suggested we take the longer hike back which involved some climbing. I was a bit concerned because she has a difficult time with uphill walking because of health issues. She had to stop a lot, but she made it! And the views got even better as we climbed up to the narrow ridge between the big ravine and the higher cirque where Dos D’Ane was nestled on the other side.Check out the photos below for a quick look:
